Depending on the location of a door, this placement can have a huge impact on the appearance of your home. For example, the entry door (front door) of a home with a door care routine may be dull in color, dirty, and worn out. This can give the same appeal to the entire home. A door with fresh paint, clean, and new can give your home a fresh and up-to-date feel. For this reason, it is important to have a door care routine, if you don’t already have one.
Before any cleaning can be done, it is good to know what type of door you have. By type, we mean the type of material the door is made of. For example, is it made of hardwood, emission glass, steel, and/or other type? Once you have confirmed the type of material your door is made out of, buy a cleaning solution that is meant for that specific material. (Below is a link for all the DIYers on making specific cleaning solutions for wood and glass doors).
- Entry Door/ Entryway – Now that the fall season is here, expect to be cleaning fallen leaves regularly as a part of your door care routine. Make sure to clear these leaves and other debris by using a broom and dust pan. The next thing to do is to give your door a thorough sweep. Pay special attention to the weather stripping because now that the weather is getting cold, this small material can save you money and prevent leakage of air in the home and outside the home. If the weather strips are worn out, make sure to replace them. Halloween is this week and by the weekend, it will be time to put those spooky decorations away. Ensure that the walkway is clear from any gardening tools, trash, and children’s toys. This will give your home/business a welcoming feeling for the holidays to come.
- Wood Doors – Make sure to remove dust and debris with a cloth or feather duster before applying any cleaning solutions. Apply an all-purpose cleaner onto the surface of the wooden door and wipe towards the grain of the door. Afterwards, make sure the wooden door is completely dried.
- Glass Doors – Wipe away any debris with a cloth and make sure to use a glass cleaner. Spray the glass cleaner all over the glass and using a circular motion, clean glass with a cloth. A Squeegee can be used for larger glass doors in homes and/or businesses.
